Celebrating the life of
William James Glasgow
September 20, 1922 - November 04, 2010
SAVANNAH - William J. Glasgow, age 88, born and raised in Summit, New Jersey, died on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at The Marshes of Skidaway Island. Bill was the youngest of seven children, and the only son. He was predeceased by all of his sisters, and by his dear wife, Catherine in 1996.
Bill was a legend in the residential real estate business in the greater Summit area. He and his staff were a mighty presence in the marketplace, and although he had only six sales people in his office at any given time, he left his footprint, specializing in corporate transferees.
For years, Bill spent weekends at his beachfront home in Barnegat Light, N.J, and upon his retirement, spent summers there as well. He loved puttering with the house and digging in his garden. In the early 1990s, Bill and Catherine retired to Skidaway Island. He and Catherine had a home at The Landings, where they enjoyed golf, gardening and close friendships. Bill kept the home after Catherine's demise. Last year, he moved to The Marshes.
Bill was a very devout Christian -- it was his primary focus in life. His father was an itinerant preacher, and made a great impression on Bill as a young man. Bill was an active and generous member of Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah and was largely responsible for the completion of the new pre-school there.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at Independent Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Bill will be interred at a later date in Fair Mount Cemetery in Chatham, New Jersey.
Special thanks to the staff at The Oaks for the kindness and attention given to Bill during the last months of his life. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice or to Independent Presbyterian Church in Bill's memory would be appreciated.
